"Love Without Favoritism"
"You have dishonored the poor man." — James 2:6
As God's people, we are called to love others and guard against dishonoring anyone. Jesus never showed favoritism based on wealth, status, or appearance. He spent time with the invalid at the Pool of Bethesda, met with Nicodemus, a respected ruler of the Jews, called Zacchaeus down from a tree, healed blind Bartimaeus as he begged by the roadside, spoke with the woman at the well, and shared meals with sinners.
God offers every person a place of dignity at Christ's table because of His great love for them. As Scripture reminds us, "God is love" (1 John 4:16). At the foot of the cross, all ground is level.
May our love never be limited to those who live where we live, look like we look, or act like we act. In John 13:34–35, Jesus gave His followers a new command: to love one another just as He has loved us. That love is selfless, kind, and without partiality. It is one of the clearest ways the world recognizes those who truly belong to Him.
Prayer:
Father, help me to see others as You see them, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Remove any favoritism from my heart, and teach me to love with the same grace, compassion, and humility that You have shown me. May my life reflect Your love to everyone I meet. In Jesus' name, amen.
