Keeping The Main Thing The Main Thing

One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

The powerful FedEx company  came into dominance by focusing on one service:  overnight delivery. Southwest Airlines became one of the leading airlines by focusing on low-cost, and on time travel. And, when many places focused on food service, Starbucks opened coffee shops focusing on just coffee. Focus is fundamental to spiritual success as well as it is to business success. Making God's will and presence your top priority each day.  Keeping the main thing the main thing...Jesus...can be a challenge in today's busy society. Spiritual growth is a key element to keeping focused on Him. We can sharpen our focus by delving into the Word, prayer and serving others.  Colossians 3:2 says, "Set your mind on things above. " Focus!!  Focus puts our priorities in order. Paul said in today's scripture, "This one thing I do."  He was pressing toward the goal, the prize of the call of God. Focus gives us a forward mindset. Forgetting those things behind us as we reach toward those things ahead. Focus also brings passion to our lives as we "press" toward, meaning an intense endeavor.  Today, let's begin by focusing on Jesus and making serving Him our top priority. Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God..."  Put God at the very center of your life, time and choices. Prayer. Lord, help me to focus on You and Your Kingdom. Guard my mind so nothing will be able to take my focus off of You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
